Shakespeare Progress

Almost done! I have the rows sewn together diagonally and just have to finish sewing the triangle end units together and onto the ends before sewing the rows to the rows. Soooo - very close to being done! At first I questioned some of my brighter blues, but now that it is together - I think they look good. And - way in the beginning when I was cutting it out - I knew I didn't have enough cream prints so I used some light blue prints here and there - only for the smaller pieces though - and they blend right in just fine.

This quilt takes a long time to make - it isn't hard, just time consuming. Ummm - in my book anyway... now - for some of you who are doing a Dear Jane quilt or lots of applique, or? - well, then you might think differently. But me - well, my favorite patterns tend to be strip sewn then cut apart, which definately would not be this pattern, LOL. As a matter of fact - I was so relieved to get this top up to this stage that I immediately cut my Moda fat tower into 2" strips and zipped up 20 Gratitude blocks (a little intermission, you know?). So - it probably would be done if I hadn't taken that detour, but hey, the detour is looking pretty good too!

Fabulous! So much swirly motion and using the light blues as well as cream was inspired - I think it adds to the effect.

Each time I see this quilt I think maybe I should give it a try... It is simply gorgeous, and the fabrics really do work well together.

NICE! Did you cut according to Judy's directions? (one quarter square triangle and two half square triangles for the star points, etc. - or did you do the one rectangle and two squares sew and flip method?)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this quilt! I'm with you on not likely to do very fiddly blocks but this sure does look like it's work the extra effort.

What a keepsake...It's amazing the illusion the blocks give into circles.

The brighter blues are great - they add a sparkle to the quilt.

I really love that quilt. I've simply got to make one for myself one day. Maybe with blue and yellow.

Anyway, where's Little Boy? He's always on the quilts when they are laid out, with his little truck or car! :)

Just as your first Shakespere I saw this quilt is stunning. I definately have this pattern on my to do list for 2007.

I would have been hesitant about the brighter blues too, and yet they add so much life to the pattern.
And the light blues mixed with the cream add depth to the background, I'm going to try that with a blue and cream quilt I'm in the process of cutting out. Sometimes it pays to have to 'make do', doesn't it?

This quilt is so worth the effort you must have put into it. The colours are wonderful and I love the little stars around the edge of the border. Would like to see the Gratitude blocks too :-)

Evelyn, this quilt is so incredibly beautiful! I was going to tell you to slow down and wait for me, but at this point, you will have made three of these before I even get started on mine. I think the light blue adds interest.
I too like the faster piecing quilts - something that looks hard but is easy, rather than something that looks easy but is hard. Although this one looks like it is as hard as it looks.

Hi Starfish, beautiful, beautiful quilt!!
I'm a quilter and a Shakespeare fan. Just wondered how/why you came to call this quilt "Shakespeare Progress." From one of other comments, sounds like you have another 'Shakespeare' quilt, is here a picture of that online too?
Happy quilting,
Ally
