Scrap Log Cabin Quilts

362" of binding finally finished! I sewed the binding to the top and hand stitched it (off and on) to the back only because I didn't know a better way. Well, believe me, over the course of 362" of binding - I have experimented with several different binding methods, my favorite method now being what I used when I attached the Green Ocean Waves binding (explained in an older post within the past month or so).

This is my 5th finished large log cabin (still working on the 6th). I cut the center squares 3.5" and the strips are cut 2". The finished block size is 14.5". Top is 90.5" X 90.5". This quilt is a gift for one of my sisters. Hopefully my husband won't grieve its departure from our household too much (gosh, he gets soooo attached to any quilt I make!) as we just so happen to have a very similar one of our own... which I have with me - so here is a photo... OK, different setting, different quilting pattern, maybe some different fabrics - but certainly alot of the same fabric. I liked this setting so much I made 2, maybe even 3 all alike. But I am liking the furrows setting very much now too! Hummm...

If you are planning on buying something from Amazon, I would appreciate it if you use my links! Thank you!

Gorgeous quilts. Lots of binding done. Wow. I never actually stopped to figure out how far it is aronud a large quilt. When you see the number it's quite daunting!

You cannot go wrong with a Log Cabin - they are always lovely. Great job -- great BIG job on the binding. I found your instructions for machine applying the binding. I still cannot keep it even on both sides, and actually ENJOY that last hand sewingstep - especially when it's cold and blow-y outside, having that quilt draped over me as I sew on the binding in my idea of heaven.

Thanks for your lovely photos.

Lovely Log Cabins, I like both settings. It's a very satisfying block to make, you've done a lovely job on both quilts.
I have to admire the quilting on the latest one, as it's my Feather Spray panto. Yhe quilter did a beautiful job, and it looks good on the piecing. Great choice.

Gorgeous quilts, both of them! Your measurement, in inches, of the binding made me smile. That's the way my husband thinks... are you an engineer? ;)

lucky sister! for my quilts that I keep-sewing to the front and handstitching to the back is still my favorite method. I like the hand work part so it doesn't bother me. For charity quilts or where I know they will get a lot of wear- stitch to the back, flip to the front and topstitch by machine down works great.

What a beautiful log cabin quilt, and the quilting is divine. That makes me want to dig through the stash and make one - maybe a slightly smaller one :o)
