What an interesting post that was, Evelyn! My mother made me take 4 years of home ec- I even had to take history in summer school once to fit in home ec! But there were times later when I was glad I knew how to do all that stuff - even the bound buttonholes!
There's always something they don't tell you about childbirth. I thought I'd read everything out there, and there were still a couple of surprises when the time came.
I used to make all my own clothes, and my daughter's when she was small. Don't know why I stopped really, though it was getting harder to find reasonably priced dress fabric and I just didn't have so much time once I had 2 kids. I am amazed to find that you have a business - how do you fit in all of the travelling and looking after Little Boy?
P.S. I hated sewing lessons at school - a complete wase of time, making you tack everything before you sewed it on the machine! My argument was always that they didn't do that in factories manufacturing clothes so why should I?
Oh what a wonderful post Evelyn! I loved learning all about you growing up! And your son is adorable in those baby pics! Gee, those dresses look wonderful! I was actually thinking about trying to make a summer dress for myself lately, nohting in the stores fit my shape! And I hate sewing clothes! Now that is desperate!
You always manage to inspire and educate with wit and wisdom at the same time. Wonderful post, Evelyn! Thanks for sharing both your sewing journey and your life with us, you do make a difference!
Yes, that is such an interesting post about your sewing history, Evelyn, thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Made me think about what much we prize our sewing backgrounds. I was a little shocked to realize it was going to take a while to lose that pregnancy weight, too. I got over 200 pounds and I thought it was going to go away in a few days?? Funny mommy.
