Warm Weekend!

Oh my goodness, it finally warmed up (from the low 20's to the mid 30's!... that would be from about -6C to 2C). Quick - put on the ski pants and head outside!

A few photos from skating on a pond today. Cape Cod has wonderful "kettle" ponds - created years ago by glaciers. These ponds are great to swim in during the summer - plus fun for sk
ating in the winter if it gets cold enough and the ice is good. Little Boy's first time on skates... he liked being pushed around in the chair! He did ok, but was happiest with the picnic (as long as there is a picnic involved - my boy is happy!). Oh - and check out my sister's big thermos for hot chocolate! He also liked watching the other skaters. We went early because the weather forecast was snow and my sister wanted to check the ice before it was covered in snow - good and thick at about 5" - just one soft spot/puddle toward the edge and she put a broom down as a marker for the kids to stay away from. We actually had the pond to ourselves for some time... and here is another photo with other skaters after a light dusting of snow. I'm not a good skater at all, but I think with a little practice I could do better. We all had so much fun!

On Saturday I sat out on my sister's swing for a bit - working on a binding - while I watched Little Boy play in his cousin's sandbox. Her deck gets the sun so nicely and it was actually toasty warm in that spot. I got a little more of the binding done on my log cabin (why oh why didn't I just put it all on by machine?) and my sister got some knitting done - but we had to keep jumping up for the kids so we didn't get tons done, but it was still fun. AND - after we went inside my sister showed me how her knitting machine works! Hummm.... now, that is one nifty gadget.

Forecast says it is supposed to get cold again - and windy which means - brrrr- really cold, so I am glad that we took advantage of the "warm" weather while it was here!

Enjoy your 'heat' wave! I grew up in MA and those little kettle ponds of which you speak really take me back to my childhood... thanks for that.

had to laugh, sandbox and ice skating in the same post! Never ever possible in this corner of the world where sand boxes are covered with snow by the time the ice is safe...

Pond skiting is just the best. It doesn't happen often here because we get too much snow but once in awhile we get lucky. I love the picture of little boy all bundled up and wearing his skates.

Little Boy looks so bundled up yet looks so happy! He does look a little out of place in the sand box while wearing a snowsuit.

Looks like you had a wonderful time in the sun. I am looking forward to sit in the spring sun feeling the heath of the sun on my face once again. We will have winter here until early April or so. Last year we had snow until first week of May. That was late indeed.

What a wonderful "old-fashioned" time -- we used to skate on ponds back in the "dark ages"! vbg
Looks like Little Boy is having a wonderful time.

His first time ice skating! How wonderful, and you have pictures. Almost makes the cold worth it. =) I can't imagine sitting outside in a coat to do binding, no matter how toasty the porch is. I'm a wimp. =)

Sounds as if you are enjoying a wonderful visit with your sister.
