9 Patch Fun!

OK - so who doesn't have a pile of 9 patch blocks in the back of their closet somewhere? I have a nice little pile (from a swap in about 1995?) and these blocks are next up on my UFO/WIP list - just got to get those final borders on at least 1 top so I can start in on these 9 patches! That's the system I use for working on my projects - only 10 allowed at a time.

A great thing about the digital camera is you can play with different lay-outs/fabrics/ideas - take a quick photo and then compare! I find it easier to look at a small photo than the entire thing laid out on the floor. And, I like to know where I'm headed before I start sewing. So, here are 3 ideas I had at one point this summer - but I am not setting my blocks exactly like any of these layouts... you guys will just have to wait and see...

I'm all set to go though because this week I bought the fabric I really need to get these blocks shaped up into a top! But first I need a FINISH... stay tuned...

After reading your post it's reminded me that i also have some 9 patch blocks from a swap that i haven't used. Will have to look for them on the weekend.
I am curious to see what layout you decide on.

I like the red backing and the one with the sashing too. Can't wait to see what you are actually going to make with them. I have some 9patches from a swap this year, but haven't done anything with them yet. I'll get there, eventually :)

I love your idea of restricting yourself to 10 projects at a time! I also love to use my digital camera as a design board. It is an excellent tool for quilters.

Yes, the camera is a great help-lets you get a little 'distance' so you get a better idea of the quilt as a whole.

I love the red background, although the others are nice too. I guess I like the dramatic look. Can't wait to see how you arrange them.

Looking forward to seeing what the final layout will be but I DO like the red fabric in the first picture so I hope that will be incorporated somewhere.

I don't have any nine patches hanging around - maybe I need to make some! The digital camera is really a great tool for quilting.

Interesting layouts. I prefer to sew without knowing where I'm going often, but still enjoy the camera to capture ideas from my diesgn wall for future reference...

Yep, I've got a pile of them--some that Finn sent on for us to use for the kids. I'm thinking on point to make a larger quilt. The red between yours fantastic!

I like the first one - on point with the red fabric - but then that would be my choice since I just set my nine patches on point too!

I love the red bordered one! It seems to bring the blocks to life. I have a stash of them, too, from a swap earlier this year. I'm using them to make wonky houses - some of them. Not sure about the rest. Or the timing!

Only ten projects at a time. Hmmm, now I have to go count!

Love the red setting!!! Guess I'll have to wait...patiently. I have lots of 9-Patches...do you need more, Evelyn?!? ;-) I have more if you need more. I'd love to share...then I wouldn't have to feel badly...cuz I don't limit myself to 10 UFOs...I'm a starter not a finisher.

I'm being patient...ever-so-patient...waiting.

;-) Hugs to you and Little Boy!

cute 9 patches :-)

The traditional blocks (4patch, ninepatch) are my favorites, definately. I like the version in the middle, the one with the light background.
