Just a Rainy Day

Rainy days with a busy 3 year old keeps this Momma on her toes trying to think up fun things to do. Here is one of our projects from yesterday while it was raining.

And - we HAD to make a trip to Wal-Mart. The day before yesterday when we were out running our errands Little Boy was complaining about his foot and insisted that I carry him. Hummm - new shoes? Yup - he has grown 2 sizes since May when I bought him a pair of sneakers and summer shoes. 2 sizes - no wonder his feet were hurting! I had the shoe person measure his foot just to be sure. So, new sneakers and socks, plus summer shoes were bought. He NEEDS sneakers and socks because we do lots and lots of hikes and I like to make sure he has good support for those growing feet!

And, like all good trips to Wal-Mart - you always come home with more than what you went for originally - lookie what I got! This book was marked down to $20 Canadian from $30 - almost the price of a magzine! And, it is full of great patterns - at least 5-6 that I would consider making, so that is a good deal. I've had a chance to look through it and I am now thinking about cutting down some of my fabric yardage into fat quarters... when - I have no idea - but it is a thought I am playing with. It just might make some of that fabric a bit more usable - or in my case - portable!

And today is a bit cooler and not raining - so I'm off to pack our cooler (we never leave home without it!). We are off to discover a new walk - he has lots of pent of energy to run off after yesterday and some fresh air will do my nerves good! After yeserdays downpour - the inside of my car (yes, the one with the fixed leaking windshield) is now soaking wet. A call to the repair shop - possibly a seam underneath split open when the big tree squished the car over the winter... sigh.

That looks like a good book. Wallmart has a surprising number of interesting quilt books. I am trying, without much success, not to buy any more quilt books or magazines.

hmmm, leaky car, but getting squished by big trees has a way of doing that! What a great time little boy always has with his mom.

cutting yardage into FQ's makes sense to me -- I always have so much trouble using yardage -- somehow I'm afraid to "waste" a little bit of it as I may "need" this whole big piece.... I'll have to think about FQ's, and just piecing any backing I need....

Criteria for buying a book should definitely be would you consider making anything from the book--5 or 6 of them is pretty good. Not to say that yours would be a complete replica either--you know how to be clever with fat quarters already!! Little inspiration can always give us a kick start.

I can't believe you had rain! I have heard nothing about record breaking heat all over the world. Enjoy the rain--it is hot, hot, hot here! Your trip to Wal-Mart sounds like the trips I make. I can't seem to get out of there with just what is on my list either!

I like the flower. WOnder if it would be possible to make it permanent so you could make a quilt with these cute little hand print flowers. Great idea.

Oh, Evelyn, you are such a good mommy! I remember those days when I had "only" one child in my home... yes, it was a long time ago, but I promised myself, over the years, that I'd never forget how hard it was. Having one child is a whole lot of intensely tiring and rewarding work. And you seem to have found the key to enjoying it. And you still seem to be getting so much done! I love your concrete patio- so practical and I bet the sweet little one loves it. And your flowers are enjoying the rain, I bet. And that green quilt... Wow! A lot of work there and I love it. So sleep when he does and play when he does and remember that each moment is a gift that can never be re-opened. Savor them.

Hopefully the dealer will be able to repair your car. It has definetly been a crazy summer for storms. The book you found looks very interesting, I am going to have to keep my eye out for it!

Looks like he had fun. I always did a lot of arts and crafts with my boys. It fed their creative halves AND we had a lot of fun together.

One of our favorites was the painting on rocks - we still have some of them. http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/results.asp?z=y&ath=Lin+Wellford

Evelyn,
You are a good mommy. Taking your son shoe shopping, showing him the wonderful world of painting and crafts, taking him out to run. A leaky car would put a damper on things (get it damp er ha ha). Glad you had a good experience at Walmart. I love getting new quilt books.

I just love children's art - and the flower with the hand-print leaves is so adorable.

Bet your garden enjoyed the rain though!

Sorry about the car - is there any way you could cover the area you think may be leaking with a tarp when bad weather is approaching?

Your garden is coming along nicely, and I really like your herb garden. The green quilt looks very good and yes, all small threads and small moves makes a difference in the long run. The book looks nice. I always want a book to hold at least 3 possible projects I want to do. More than 3 is good :-) Maybe you can let Little Boy make more hand paintings on rainy days and make a quilt for over his bed with them ?

Princess Girl's feet once grew overnight, I swear. She woke up and put on the same shoes as the day befopre, and they didn't fit! How is that possible?

I love Little Boy's rainy day art!

One of my favorite books - good buy!

Little Boy's artwork is great! I have a friend in Sacramento whose granddaughter goes to an art pre-school. I've been amazed at the things she did at 4 and 5. This piece by your son is a good one!
